Museum Sonobudoyo : enjoy the beauty of ancient Javanese culture


Sonobudoyo Museum is a museum of history and culture of Java, including Java classic architecture building. The museum is a collection of Javanese culture and history that are considered the most complete after the National Museum of the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta. In addition to the time of Neolithic pottery and bronze statues from the 8th century, this museum also stores several kinds of wayang kulit, a variety of ancient weapons (including the dagger), and Javanese masks.

As a museum, Sonobudoyo still functioning continues to this day, although its administrators alternated. At the time of Japanese rule (1942), Museum Sonobudoyo managed by the Japanese government. Then, since Japan's defeat until the year 1949 this museum is managed by the Office of Wiyotoprojo. Year 1950-1973 Cultural Inspection is managed by the Department of Education and Culture of Yogyakarta. However, on December 11, 1974, through Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 693/0/1979, Museum Sonobudoyo taken over by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the State Museum serve as the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). And, now the State Museum Sonobudoyo is the Regional Technical Implementation Unit at Yogyakarta Provincial Cultural Office, which has the function of the management of museum objects that have scientific cultural values. Visiting the Museum Sonobudoyo is an alternative if you want to see the diverse collection of keris from across the country and things associated with it.
