Yogyakarta Batik Museum is a museum that holds the most ancient collection of batik in Indonesia. Besides batik collection, this museum also contains many hundreds or even thousands of batik equipment such as stamp, canting, and the ink (malam) is stored neatly. Thus visitors can see at the same time learn about the development of tools to make batik from time to time.

Though ancient, that were collected at the Museum Batik Batik Yogyakarta still fun to look at. One of them is the motif batik "sarung isen-isen antique" from the Pekalongan made in 1880-1890. Batik motif has a pattern in the form of garlands of flowers, "tumpal blabakan", "title of alternating lung" leaves in blue and green, and wood color timber made from “mori cen” (Prisima) which created a woman named EV Zeuylen Dutch citizens.
Visitors can also see the beauty of batik type "Sarung panjang Soga Jawa” made in the year 1920-1930. Batik has a style of " boketan adu jago dasar polos" color "Java soga", black and white. While the fabric used is "mori cen" with the technique of batik process. Batik Sarong Pajang Soga Java type is made by Lie Djing Kiem.

Yogyakarta Batik Museum located on Jl. Dr. Sutomo No. 13-A Yogyakarta. The museum was founded on May 12, 1977 by Hadi Nugroho family. Batik museum building occupies an area of 400 m2, 600 m2 Land Area entirely. Currently batik museum managed by third generation family Hadi Nugroho, the Mother Dewi Nugroho. At first I thought this museum belongs to the government, but obviously, this museum is privately owned. From here I can see, so much attention Ibu Dewi family to the preservation of Indonesian batik.

Still a major focus of the community, including foreign tourists on batik who encourage this family pioneered the collection of batik cloth. Starting from his own relatives, parents, grandparents and Hadi Nugroho own generation, until the pioneering efforts of a batik museum accomplished.

Batik collection in this museum is very comprehensive, ranging from batik, which is derived from year 1730 up to modern batik as we often encounter in the shopping center the main attraction when we visited the museum. Not only are the Yogyakarta batik collection in this museum, batik Pekalongan, Solo, Banyumas, and Klaten are also in this museum.

The collection includes long cloth, gloves and so forth, which until now has reached the number of 400 pieces of cloth. There is also a collection of batik patterns and tools for batik from the traditional to the instrument printed batik. Collection of fabrics arranged neatly in the form of rolls of cloth lined into a glass cupboard, up-lembara fabric sheets in pairs on a board so we could see it in two dimensions.

Museum visitors
Batik Museum visitors can be classified into three criteria, namely public visitors, visitor education and visitor research. There are public visitors who come just to see batik collections stored at the Museum Batik. Visitor education is usually a good student of elementary or secondary school as well. "Many overseas visitors as well as from Korea, Japan and Germany who came to the Batik Museum to research the ancient batik.

According to the father Prayogo, foreign visitors have the critical level is very large compared to domestic tourists. They will always be asked in detail each motif being viewed.

Batik museum visit is usually crowded when school holidays or when students are completing the task of the season finally. We crowded conditions, the number of visitors could reach the 200-person, but if kodisi quiet only about 30 people.
